John Hughes Passes Away at Age 59

Writer/director/producer John Hughes died suddenly today of a heart attack while taking a morning walk during a trip to Manhattan to visit family. He was 59.

Hughes directed the films Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, She's Having a Baby, Uncle Buck and Curly Sue.

Hughes also wrote and produced many films, such as National Lampoon's Vacation, Pretty in Pink, Home Alone, Dutch and The Great Outdoors. You can view a full list of his films here.

Born on February 18th, 1950 in Michigan, Hughes in the last decade stepped back from the legacy he created to enjoy time with his family, maintain a functioning farm in northern Illinois and support independent arts.

Hughes is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.
