A local high school basketball coach has been indicted on a rape charge.
Chad Pado, head basketball coach at Westlake High School and teacher at Parkside Elementary in Westlake, was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for allegedly raping a female he met at a Westlake bar in February.
According to Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner, Pado and the 32-year-old woman met at the Ironwood Cafe in Westlake. Later in the evening the two ended up at the Sturbridge Square Apartments.
According to Turner what happened in the apartment is where the stories of Pado and his accuser differ.
"They left together, apparently she left willingly at that point." said Turner, "But the issue is the activity at the apartment and whether it was consensual or not."
After the affair the woman was dropped off at the nearby Cleats Restaurant where police say they later received a call about a sexual assault.
In speaking to Fox 8 News, Pado acknowledges he did not know the woman prior to the evening and says he is more than willing to allow the case to work it's way through the justice system.
"There are a lot of instances where people are falsely or wrongly accused and ultimately I think in the end we will be happy with the decision that's finally made." said Pado.
Pado has been assigned to a non-teaching job while the case is ongoing.
According to Turner, the woman did not know Pado's name, he was identified from surveillance video where the two met and from credit card receipts.
