Westlake Native Hits Big Time

Westlake native Matt Friedman had been hired by Rocking M Radio in Great Bend, Kan., as the sports director for KZRS 107.9-FM and ESPN Radio affiliate KNNS 1510-AM.

Friedman will host his own daily sports talk show and do play-by-play for football, basketball and baseball games of nearby Great Bend High School. He will also be responsible for a daily DJ shift from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Friedman an alumnus of Westlake high School, graduated in June from Ohio State University with a degree in journalism. While at Ohio State, Friedman announced Buckeye football, basketball and baseball on the student-run online campus radio station. He was also the lead host and producer of "The C-Town Throwdown," a sports talk show covering Cleveland professional sports. Friedman also inderned at radio station WTAM 1100 and SportsTime Ohio.

Friedman got his start in broadcasting as a junior at Westlake Hight School, when he joined the school's television station, WHBS-TV. Under executive producer and faculty advisor Tony Hoty, Friedman called football and basketball during his junoir and senoir years. He pursued broadcasting for two years at Elon University in North Carolina before moveing on to Ohio State.
