One dead after shooting near Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald's

August 18, 2008

One of two men shot outside the Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald's in Downtown Chicago Monday morning has died.

The shooting appears to have happened at the northwest corner of North Clark and West Ohio streets about 4 a.m. where a police officer on the scene said several shell casings were found.

Two people in the same vehicle were shot and made their way to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital on their own, not by ambulance, according to Near North District police Sgt. Tim Bridges.

One man who was shot has died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, which did not have the victim’s identity or pronouncement time available immediately.

The shooting happened about 4:10 a.m. in the 100 block of Ohio Street and the two men shot drove themselves to Stroger Hospital, police News Affairs Officer David Banks said. It is not clear how badly the men were injured.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald's is located on the 600 block of North Clark Street at that intersection.

Details remain sketchy early Monday, but Bridges said several cars appear to have been involved. The victims were apparently in one vehicle, the shooters were in another and additional vehicles may also have been involved.

As of 5:10 a.m., eastbound Ohio Street, which is a one-way road at that location, was blocked off with police tape between LaSalle and Clark streets and police were on the scene investigating, a witness said.

Police were alerted to the shooting after they received several 911 calls, Bridges said.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating but no one was in custody at 5 a.m.
