Survey: Only 15 Percent Of Gamers Purchase DLC

43 percent of gamers aren't even aware of additional content.

January 8, 2010 - A recent survey conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates, a media consulting firm, asked those who play consoles games if they are aware of the ability to purchase additional download content (DLC) through their systems.

Close to 800 gamers responded, with a little under a half of them saying they had no idea additional content was even available.

Only 15 percent of the respondents said they were aware of or have purchased DLC. 41 percent said they are aware of DLC, but haven't purchased any. And 43 percent said they are not aware of DLC.

Mike Vorhaus, President of Magid Advisors, told IGN those who aren't aware of DLC are typically playing consoles that don't actively promote DLC, such as the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii.

GameStop, a leading videogame retailer, will certainly increase awareness and purchases next year as the company recently announced it would be selling in-store download items directly to customers.

Do you purchase DLC for any of the titles you own?
