Three filmmakers rumored for gritty reboot.
January 12, 2010 - How would you feel about the director of the Transformers movies taking on your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? Because Michael Bay is one of the names being rumored to replace Sam Raimi on Sony's recently announced reboot of the web-slinger franchise.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Bay has "previously expressed interest in taking over the Spider-Man franchise," with Sony said to be "interested in a more gritty, contemporary redo of the series." But the Bad Boys and Armageddon helmer isn't the only filmmaker mentioned by the magazine.
EW claims that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb is being mentioned as a possibility, as is Seabiscuit's Gary Ross, who previously penned a draft of Spider-Man 4 and was involved with the Venom spin-off.
As for Raimi, his exit from the Spidey franchise now paves the way for him to make the World of Warcraft movie he's been attached to since last July.
