Electronic Arts announced during its fiscal Q1 earnings call this afternoon it will release Need For Speed: Shift 2 early next year for consoles and PC.

No other details about the game were revealed. EA's earnings release notes the game is a co-published title.

The Need for Speed Shift series was first released in 2009 for multiple platforms. The game was developed by London-based Slightly Mad Studios and was met with positive response by critics.

"I can confirm the announcement but we have nothing more to add," an EA representative told IGN.

EA plans to release Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, developed by Criterion Games, this fall. Need for Speed World, a free-to-play MMO title, was release last month.
