Experts: Cell Phone Nudes Now Part of Teen Dating
Written by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Forget about passing notes in study hall. Central Ohio school officials said teens are now using their cell phones to send nude pictures of themselves.

Mark Raiff, a principal at Columbus' Olentangy Liberty High School said the situations have left him speechless. He said the teens don't see anything wrong with sharing pictures or video of themselves by cell phones.

Detective Brian Marvin of the FBI Cyber Crime Task Force said he has seen everything from a strip tease to explicit sex sent by cell phone. He said the content sometimes makes its way to Internet Web sites for others to see.

Experts said teens often don't understand the dangers. They suggest parents pay attention to their kids' phones.

Arby's Buys Wendy's

MovieMiguel.com

Arby's owner to acquire Wendy's in all-stock deal

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After at least two rejections, billionaire Nelson Peltz has finally succeeded in landing Wendy's in a $2.3 billion deal that would add the chain known for its square burger and chocolate Frosty dessert to his ownership of Arby's and its roast beef sandwiches.

Atlanta-based Triarc Companies Inc., owned by Peltz, said Thursday it will pay about $2.34 billion in an all-stock deal for the nation's third-largest hamburger chain started in 1969 by Dave Thomas. Wendy's had rejected at least two buyout offers from Triarc.

Thomas' daughter, Pam Thomas Farber, said the family was devastated by the news.

Arby's Owner Nelson Peltz Buys Wendy's Restaurants for $2.4 Billion

By Jeannine Thompson In a surprising turn of events in the fast-food restaurant chain world, Nelson Peltz, the owner of the Arby's restaurants, has closed a deal valued at $2.34 billion to buy out the Wendy's restaurants. After having his two original bids rejected by the company, Peltz announced Thursday that he will be purchasing the company in an all-stock deal. His company, Triarc Cos Inc, will be paying about $26.78 per share -- a 5.7 percent premium to their stock's closing price of $25.32 on Wednesday. Wendy's has about 88 million shares of stock outstanding. According to the deal, shareholders at Wendy's will receive 4.25 shares of Triarc Class A stock for each share of Wendy's stock they own. After several turbulent years of slipping sales, the deal looks to possibly be a life saver for the struggling Wendy's restaurant chain. In 2005, the Dublin, Ohio-based company suffered a major blow to its relatively squeaky-clean image after a woman reported that she found a finger in her chili from a San Jose location. Although the claim was later proved to be false, the sensation cost Wendy's over $2.5 million in lost sales, and caused dozens of layoffs. The acquisition will change Triarc's name to also include Wendy's, but there is no word yet on what other changes will be made to the Wendy's restaurants after the deal closes in the second half of 2008. Rising costs of food and a troubled economy have caused the prices of the average menu item at Wendy's to increase, causing further sales loss. With the boost that the company is sure to see after the closing of this deal, hopefully prices will lower, inviting back more of the large customer base that Wendy's enjoys. Recently, marketing attempts by the company have been somewhat of a disaster. After dismal sales, the company was forced to sell off its Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, and spun off its Tim Horton's coffee-and-doughnut chain after being pressured by Peltz and Triarc. Despite the company's compliance with the pressuring from the stockholders and Peltz, the company's stock value only went up slightly. The third-largest hamburger fast-food chain in the United States, Wendy's trails behind McDonald's and Burger King in sales after the two received a boost from international sales. Wendy's, in an effort to regain lost ground, unveiled several new food items for their menu, ranging from hamburgers to sandwich wraps. However, sales have still been sluggish, as the 6,600 restaurant-strong chain showed a loss in revenue from $522 million a year ago, to $513 million.More information: http://www.wendys-invest.com/ne/wen042408.php

Wisconsin Woman Claims Police Slapped Her With $400 Fine for Text Message During Movie

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

FC1

A Racine, Wis., woman says she has been fined $400 for sending a text message in a movie theater, but police say there's a lot more to the story, MyFOXMilwaukee reported.

Melissa Nelson, 25, claims she was viewing "Prom Night" Friday at Marcus Theatres in Sturtevant, Wis., with friends to celebrate her brother’s birthday when her cell phone vibrated in her purse.

Nelson told MyFOXMilwaukee she received a text message concerning her 5-year-old daughter and that she quietly sent one text message back. Nelson’s friend, who was sitting next to her at the time, says no one complained or even noticed that Nelson was sending a text message on her phone.

Marcus Theatres said in a police report that they were having problems with people talking on their cell phones all day and had made a special announcement to moviegoers that night asking them not to use phones, MyFOXMilwaukee reported.

The movie theater’s usher noticed Nelson’s phone by a small light blinking in the dark.

"He came over like, ‘Put that away.’ That’s how he said it," Nelson’s friend told MyFOXMilwaukee. "She’s like, ‘Just give me a second and I’ll be done.’ And he’s like, ‘Well I’m going to get security.’"

The security guard on duty was an officer with the Sturtevant Police Department.

"I don’t know if he was having a bad night, but from the moment he came into the theater he had an attitude," Nelson told MyFOXMilwaukee.

The Sturtevant police report claims just the opposite, with the officer claiming he repeatedly asked Nelson to put her phone away, but she kept arguing with him. She was given a $400 ticket for disorderly conduct.

Nelson claims it was the officer who was disorderly, saying he pushed her.

"All of this over a text message concerning my daughter," Nelson said.

The Sturtevant police chief told MyFOXMilwaukee they support the officer’s decision.

Marcus Theatres released a statement reading, "Marcus Theatres works hard to provide an environment where all moviegoers can enjoy watching films without visual or audio disturbances. We support the actions of our theatre staff who took the correct steps to politely deal with this guest."

Nelson says she will fight the disorderly conduct ticket.

Windows XP going off market in June: What it means

Windows XP going off market in June: What it means

Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:28PM EDT

Microsoft originally announced over a year ago that Windows XP would be going off the market in January 2008. XP was later given a brief stay of execution, to June 30, 2008. That deadline is fast approaching, which has led to much panicking from people who aren't quite sure what XP's "going off market" means, exactly.

People are still as confused as ever. So let's take a stab at clarifying, once again, what's going to happen by answering some frequently asked questions about XP's imminent disappearance.

Will Windows XP really no longer be on sale after June 30? Sorry for the double negative, but no. All this means is that Microsoft will stop selling the OS. Finding a computer with XP preinstalled will likely be very difficult, as well. However, you'll still be able to find copies for the foreseeable future, and likely the unforeseeable one, too. See for yourself: You can find copies of just about any Microsoft product, including ancient versions of Windows and even MS-DOS, by simply searching online. But hang on to your current copy of Windows XP. You may need it down the road if you don't want to move to Vista.

Will I be forced to upgrade to Vista soon? No. But it will get harder and harder not to, especially since new software and peripherals are likely to stop working with XP. That could take years.

Will my XP machine stop working in June? No, but Microsoft will stop releasing non-security software updates to the masses on April 14, 2009. But let's be clear: XP will continue to "work" even after this point.

Will Microsoft shut off product activation for XP after June? No, that would be crazy. While no one has said this will happen, it's conceivable that Windows could shut down product activation for XP at some point. But that would only happen after XP reaches its end-of-support term (when all support plans expire). The good news for you: That happens on April 8, 2014, which should be plenty of time to get the kinks worked out of Vista-or switch to a Mac, Linux, or anything else. Bottom line: Your copy of XP will work, totally legally, for at least six more years.

What about this exception for Windows XP Home Edition I hear about? Doesn't apply to you. Microsoft will continue to sell XP to makers of ultra-cheap laptops like the Asus Eee PC until 2010 because they just can't run Vista. But it is not going to make XP Home Edition available as installable software to end-users.

What about after 2014? Well, that's unclear. But it's possible XP will stop being installable at that point. Microsoft's official policy is that these dates have "no affect [sic] on how long you can use a product," which may imply product activation will work forever. However, two things come to mind:

1) Even the most die-hard XP enthusiast will probably be ready to upgrade at that point (as XP will be nearly 15 years old, and your PC will be dead by then, I'm sure).

2) Even if Microsoft shuts off product activation, the hacker community will certainly make dozens of tools to let you continue using XP with abandon. Fret not.

Can I install XP on a PC that has Vista already on it? Yes. You can delete any partition with any OS on it (and reformat it) during the installation of XP. If you're feeling brave, you can even run both OSes at the same time by setting up a dual-boot machine.

Whew! Does that clear everything up? Feel free to continue sending your queries and adding your comments below.

Microsoft Coffee-Table PCs Surface at AT&T Stores

Microsoft Coffee-Table PCs Surface at AT&T Stores

AT&T will soon be the first company to use Microsoft's touch-enabled, tabletop Surface computers as customer-service kiosks in stores.

The carrier said Wednesday that beginning April 17, Microsoft Surface computers will be set up in select retail locations in New York, Atlanta, San Antonio, Texas, and San Francisco.

AT&T plans to use Microsoft Surface computers to provide information to customers about mobile devices and other products being sold in its retail outlets. Customers can find out the particulars of a device simply by placing it on the Surface screen; the information will automatically appear on the screen by reading sensors in the devices. Customers also can compare devices side-by-side this way.

Customers also can view interactive coverage maps and use touch and hand movements to move and work with the maps to determine the coverage areas for their wireless service. Eventually, AT&T also plans to add the ability to purchase accessories for devices, such as ringtones, graphics, video content and the like, using drag-and-drop and touchscreen capabilities on the Surface kiosks.

Depending on the success of the deployments in the first four cities, AT&T will decide where it will install them in other cities and markets.

Microsoft first unveiled the surface computers as a project code-named Milano a little less than a year ago. A Surface machine is about the size and shape of a coffee table with a flat, touchscreen display. Users interact with the machines merely by touching the screens and making various hand motions to move icons, photos or other files around, or to launch applications.

More information about AT&T's launch is available on the company's Web site.

Creative Says NO to WiFi Player?

MovieMiguel.com
I have been reading a lot about a NEW Mp3 player from CREATIVE LABS, the rumor title the ZEN SHARE. In doing some of my own research no new stories have been posted on this since Feb. so I decided to contact CREATIVE myself to see what they had to say, here is what they told me:
"Thank you for contacting Creative Labs. No plans have been announced to release a Wi-Fi player in the near future. My best advice would be to keep checking the SHOP pages of our website us.creative.com, for updates. "
I'm still not sure what that means, on one hand it says "No plans have been announced..." that doesn't mean plans wont be announced soon, on that note it also says to "keep ckecking the SHOP pages" for updates does that mean something will be done sooner than we think?
or it could mean they just dont have any plans. who knows! let us know what you think!

MySpace Music, A New Rival For iTunes?

MovieMiguel.com
MySpace Music, A New Rival For iTunes?
By Max Brenn
14:55, April 5th 2008

It was bound to happen, eventually. MySpace, the biggest social-networking site, has announced its latest initiative, MySpace Music, a new service through which the News Corp.-owned website will offer music (and not only) to its users.

MySpace has signed deals with Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corp and Universal Music. One name is missing for now, EMI, but three seems to be the lucky number.

However, the new deal seems to be a win-win situation. MySpace will be able to generate a new stream of revenues from its huge audience, while the music companies will have a new way to compensate the declining CD sales.

Lately, the music studios are searching for new business models to sell their music to a new generation of consumers.

“We believe that one of the greatest growth opportunities for our industry is to develop new partnerships and models focused on unlocking the value of music in the online community space,” said Edgar Bronfman Jr., chairman/CEO of Warner Music Group, in a statement about the new partnership.

But MySpace is aiming to create something bigger than just a digital music store. According to Chris DeWolfe, chief executive of MySpace, the company wants for its newly announced MySpace Music to be a service through which people will be able to buy tickets, listen to free streaming music and share their playlists with their friends.

But MySpace is rather late to this game. In January, Last.Fm has signed a deal with all the four music giants to offer to its users free, global, on-demand access to the largest licensed catalogue of music. On Last.fm all tracks can be streamed for free up to three times each. After that, the listener is invited to buy the song from iTunes, Amazon or 7 Digital.

Last.fm has 20 million unique monthly visitors and besides the music companies, Last.fm has signed a similar deal with 150,000 independent labels and artists.

Last year, Universal Music signed a deal with Imeem, a social networking service launched in 2004, which claims to have over 19 million users every month. According to the terms of the agreement, Imeem users are able to listen to the free songs provided by the major music label. The users will only be able to store music on personal pages, but Imeem offers direct links to Apple’s iTunes store or Amazon.com for those who wish to download and store them on their computers or MP3 players.

As a digital music store, MySpace will have to face the strongest competitor on this emergent market, Apple’s iTunes, which was recently ranked as the biggest music retailer in the United States, according to The NPD Group.

On the other hand MySpace should pay attention to Amazon’s experience. Last year, the online retailer has launched Amazon MP3, the biggest collection of DRM-free tracks. Amazon has signed deals with all the four major music labels, and it has almost 4 million songs from more than 270,000 artists.

By selling unprotected songs, Amazon MP3 has tried to exploit a weakness of iTunes. The tracks downloaded from Amazon are compatible with all MP3 players currently on sale, including Apple's iPod and iPhone, Microsoft's Zune, Creative's Zen, SanDisk's Sansa or Toshiba's GigaBeat. Also Amazon MP3 is selling the songs at 89 cents, making the offer even more interesting for potential buyers, because iTunes sells tracks for 10 cents more.

However, despite its efforts Amazon MP3 didn’t manage to be a real threat for iTunes. According to the report released earlier this week by The NPD Group, Amazon MP3 has ranked fourth amongst the music retailers, behind Wal-Mart and BestBut.

The NPD’s report puts Apple's share of the music business at 19 percent, while Wal-Mart is at 15 percent, Best Buy is at 13, followed by Amazon at 6 percent.

It seems like the iPod + iTunes combo (and the newly iPhone + iTunes combo) is still unbeatable and no one has managed to find the right formula to compete with Apple.

Of course, MySpace Music adds into the equation the interaction between the music artists and their fans and between users themselves, but is hard to believe that this will be enough to beat iTunes.

However, MySpace did not offer too many details about its plans, so let us wait and see how this will play out.
