EA will unveil a "first look" of the video game at Hasbro's Showroom at Toy Fair on February 15-17, 2009 in New York City.

Universal Walks Away From DreamWorks Deal

Universal Walks Away From DreamWorks Deal

February 6, 2009

Universal Pictures said Friday that it no longer plans to distribute DreamWorks' movies, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Instead, DreamWorks heads Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider are in advanced talks with the Walt Disney Co. about a distribution deal. While other studios like Fox have also been mentioned as possible DreamWorks suitors in the past, a potential Disney deal appeared to be the only one on the table at the moment.

Universal released a statement saying, "Universal Pictures has ended discussions with DreamWorks for a distribution agreement. Over the past several weeks DreamWorks has demanded material changes to previously agreed upon terms. It is clear that DreamWorks' needs and Universal's business interests are no longer in alignment. We wish them luck in their pursuit of funding and distribution of their future endeavors."

Rourke Not Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2?

February 4, 2009

In January when trade reports announced that Mickey Rourke was in talks to play a villain in Iron Man 2, it was believed that he would take on the role of Crimson Dynamo. Robert Downey Jr. tells MTV that doesn't seem to be the case, however:

"That's actually incorrect," Downey told MTV News when asked if Rourke was being considered for the aforementioned Iron Man rogue. When pressed if, instead of Crimson Dynamo, Rourke was up for the role of Whiplash, another potential role bandied about on blogs these days, Downey had a more cryptic response.

"I can neither confirm nor deny that," said Downey. "Or maybe it's some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won't give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security."

Stay tuned for possibly more on his role soon. Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 7, 2010 release.

Universal Pictures has set Dean Parisot (Fun With Dick and Jane) to direct a remake of the 1977 hockey comedy classic Slap Shot.

Peter Steinfeld ("21") is writing the script; Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

The original starred Paul Newman as the fading player/coach of a minor league hockey team. Trying to hype the Charlestown Chiefs for a possible move South, the coach ramps up interest by turning his team into a group of brawling thugs/

Spider-Man 4 May be Headed for Michigan

Spider-Man 4 May be Headed for Michigan

February 2, 2009

The Oakland Press says that director Sam Raimi may be coming back to his home state, Michigan, to shoot scenes for Spider-Man 4. Here are excerpts from the article:

Raimi is slated to begin production on "Spider-Man 4" in 2010, in fact and, he said, envisions shooting some of that movie in Michigan.

"I'll be looking at Michigan for our second-unit photography on the new 'Spider-Man' film," he confirmed.

The extensive infrastructure needed to crank out megabudget productions like the three "Spider-Man" movies he already has made has, for the most part, kept him in Hollywood, Raimi pointed out.

"Producers are always looking at the bottom line, and if they can get the same looking stuff somewhere else cheaper, they're going to shoot there," Rumble said.

Such was the case with "Spider-Man 3."

"It was cheaper to shoot in Ohio because the streets we were shooting on had storefronts that looked a little bit more like New York than Detroit did," Raimi explained. "But if the incentives Michigan has now had been in place, we would have had the money to adapt a set in Detroit."

Spider-Man 4 is expected to hit theaters in May of 2011.

Was Beginning the End for Leatherface?

The future is looking bleak for a new Leatherface entry. Over at Platinum Dunes, there appears to be no interest in a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre entry, nor is any interest being felt at Warner Bros./New Line. The company's last outing with the Hewitt family was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.

"I think the original rights owners now own those rights," says Dunes' Brad Fuller. "I haven't heard anything for over a year now, but I think they want to go out and make their own Texas Chainsaw. While I used to always hope and pray that we could do another one, I don't feel that anymore."

Co-producer Andrew Form continues: "When we set out to make Friday the 13th, we wanted to do a fun horror film and we really enjoyed doing that. So we're going in that direction. A Nightmare on Elm Street is not that, it's a totally different movie but..."

"But you're not in the basement dismembering people," Fuller says. "It's not a torture movie, something we do not want to do."
