Blimey. We haven't even got our mitts on Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit yet, but already NFS: Shift 2 might well be in the pipeline if a pair of LinkedIn posts spotted by Superannuation are any kind of indication.
Firstly, there's the profile of Rees Savidis, Writer and Assistant Producer at EA, which states that he has worked on "world concepts and narrative fiction for a new IP at Electronic Arts Blackbox and helped to develop the fiction and characters for the 2011 installment in the AAA Need For Speed franchise."
There's definitely been no official mention of a 2011 Need For Speed as yet, but Shift 2 seems like a fair shout, especially when you consider the LinkedIn profile of Chris McClure, Senior Programmer for Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios.
"Mostly worked on new open world technology but also worked on Need For Speed Shift 2" reads the profile post. Well, that settles it then. It looks like Need For Speed: Shift 2 is on the cards and might be heading in a new direction if Savidis' "fiction and characters" statement is to be believed.
