August 20, 2009 - At EA's press conference on Tuesday, the head of EA in Europe paused in the midst of his long succession of demos to introduce the team from Crytek, explaining that they were going to be making an announcement on Thursday. With speculation about the sequel and the Bundestadt's possible ban on developers of violent video games running high, we were expecting Crytek to deliver some big news. And instead, they revealed a sculpt of the nanosuit from the upcoming game. Don't get us wrong; it's a nice suit, but, well, it's just a nice suit.
The announcement began as a sort of ersatz military contractor presentation. Stylish logos and a nice script reminded us how Crynet Systems had changed the face of war in 2020 by unleashing the ultimate weapon, man. Blurring the line between science-fiction and reality, soldiers armed in nanosuits could "adapt, engage and survive" using technology that was "generations ahead of its time." Cevat was even on hand to show off a life-size mockup of the suit and distribute some brochures that outlined the suit's abilities.
