Westlake Police Report High School Drug Abuse

Westlake, OH - In January 2008, concerned parents identified a number of Westlake High School students as possibly being involved with drug abuse.
Those tips led to two juvenile and two adult arrests.
18-year-old Darby Taylor of Avon Lake was also identified at that time as possibly being involved with drug abuse; her activities have been monitored by High School staff and Westlake PD's school resource officer since the tips were received.
Taylor is the girlfriend of one of the two 17-year-old Westlake boys arrested on Feb. 6, 2008 in connection with drug offenses. She is also a friend of Margaret Chern, who was arrested for drug offenses on Jan. 30, 2008.
On May 2, 2008, Taylor was questioned by Westlake PD and school personnel regarding a purse theft. A cell phone and cash belonging to another student were recovered. Also recovered were a driver's license and a checkbook stolen from a Westlake woman.
Taylor was also in possession of a syringe that she said she used to inject heroin. The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information will test the residue in that syringe. Lastly, Taylor also possessed a bottle of urine, apparently provided by a (hopefully) drug-free source.
When being booked, Taylor made statements that indicate a sense of perhaps misplaced priorities. She indicated that she possessed the urine in case of a surprise parental drug test, because a "dirty" test would result in her being forbidden to go to the prom. She was very specific about eating healthy through her vegetarian, no-dairy diet needs. She also wondered aloud if her arrest would impact her attending prom.
Lastly, she was offered an opportunity to speak with a narcotics detective regarding her knowledge of drug suppliers. Her reply (paraphrased): "you mean nark on others? That's immoral!" She also stated she was simply holding all the stolen property and contraband for others she refused to name.
Taylor is in the Westlake City Jail awaiting arraignment on Receiving Stolen Property (the checks are a felony-the phone & cash are misdemeanors), Possession of Drugs, and Possession of a Drug Abuse Instrument.
