Transformers 2 to Film in Philadelphia?

Main Line Today posted the following in February about projects that may film in Philadelphia:

"The film industry is [an] increasingly lucrative [thing] for government to em-brace," says Pinkenson. "We already have a reputation as the most cooperative and film-friendly city in the business. Having these tax incentives adds to our attraction. Right now, we’re looking at applications for six to eight films to begin in June, and more to follow."

The not-so-top-secret list includes Remorse, Three Sistas, Shyamalan’s Avatar series, a film based on Marley and Me and possibly Transformers 2. The GPFO website (film.org) is a good gauge of its commitment to making filmmaking a collective experience while enhancing Philly’s reputation as a movie-friendly city with manageable amounts of red tape. "How to" services are offered free of charge and cover everything from hiring a police officer to getting a street closed. There are numerous resources, including screenwriting contests, a job hotline and profiles spotlighting the city’s filmmakers.

Interesting, stay tuned. Transformers 2 is scheduled for a June 26, 2009 release.

This just in:

BURBANK March 4, 2008 Paris Hilton (”The Simple Life”) will guest-star as herself on NBC’s “My Name Is Earl” (Thursdays, 8-8:30 p.m. ET) in the one-hour episode marking the series’ original broadcast return scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 8-9:00 p.m. ET.
In the episode “I Won’t Die With A Little Help From My Friends,” Earl (Jason Lee) is unconscious and various things from real life are bleeding into his unconscious mind — which viewers will see. Paris Hilton is one of those things in Earl’s fevered mind.
Said Greg Garcia, the series’ creator and executive producer: “When we wrote the role of Paris Hilton in the script, we weren’t exactly sure who to go with for the role. But after an exhausting search we finally settled on a relatively unknown actress by the name of Paris Hilton. I can’t wait to see what she does with the role and I can’t wait for America to discover her.”

First of all, as a guy who has been in the position of having to criticize Paris Hilton while Paris Hilton’s PR staff is riding you (not here on the B&U, thank god!) props to Greg Garcia for the heavy sarcasm.

Second of all, Paris’ Shaman was in not one, but two episodes of My Name Is Earl in 2006-2007 as a character named Sparky.

This is either the second funniest coincidence of the day (the first being that we were making chicken butt jokes this morning before we found the Pete vid) or Actor/Shaman is slowly beginning to steer the Hilton career.

Not to mention that the press release we were e-mailed was issued from Burbank, a place the ShamMan is wholly not in support of.

Sometimes, this crap arranges itself in some ridiculous webs of coincidence and rumor.

Variety reports that Time Warner Inc.'s move to make New Line Cinema a unit of Warner Bros. Pictures might mean the end of the line for most of New Line's 600 employees and uncertainty for New Line's slate.

The trade says the emerging consensus is that at least 75% of New Line's employees will be axed in the coming months while a bare-bones staff stays on -- a plan reminiscent of what happened to Disney's Miramax arm after the Weinstein brothers departed in 2005.

Time Warner, which has been under pressure to cut costs and hike its stagnant stock price, will name a "transition team" shortly to handle the specifics of folding New Line into Warner Bros.

Though he's remaining on the job for the time being, New Line production president Toby Emmerich is widely expected to quit the company. It's also anticipated that New Line will vacate its New York office and its West Hollywood HQ and move operations onto the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.

Warner will decide how to handle New Line's upcoming films, though specific decisions on possible date switches aren't expected for several more weeks. New Line's next films are Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo on April 25 and Sex and the City on May 30.

The Hollywood Reporter says Fox and 20th Century Fox TV are developing a spinoff from its hit animated series "Family Guy" centered on Peter Griffin's bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, Cleveland Brown.

The project, tentatively titled "Cleveland," is being written by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry -- who voices Cleveland and serves as writer-producer on the series -- and "The Simpsons" alum Rich Appel, executive producer/showrunner on MacFarlane's other animated comedy for Fox, "American Dad."

Cleveland, who plays off black stereotypes, is the most levelheaded among Griffin's trio of friends.

In addition to "Cleveland," Fox and 20th TV also are developing a spinoff of the drama series "Prison Break," set at a female prison.
